Your fortress

You spent a lifetime building walls
Barriers to shield you from all evil
Comfortably living your life

With three words I tore down your walls
I broke in to your fortress with a smile
I thrust my love upon you

You hesitantly gave me your trust
I reassured you everything was fine
I promised I would protect you

You no longer have your walls
You are exposed and hurt
I failed to protect you

Endless nights I’m thinking of you
Asking myself what went wrong
Could I have done any different

Should I have left you alone
Alone and safe in your fortress
Numbing the feelings I had

Judging my actions and thoughts
Adding my honest intentions
Subtracting all of your pain

Did I give more than I took away?
